Transitional Kindergarten is a strong start for young learners. Albany Children's Center has 2 transitional kindergarten classrooms on site with a total of 42 TK children. Transitional Kindergarten is a "new" grade level, created just a few years ago in California. Transitional Kindergarten is a developmentally appropriate bridge between preschool and kindergarten for children turning 5 years old between September 1 and December 2. It gives young learners a jumpstart, providing them with the opportunity to learn and grow in an environment that is tailored to meet their academic and social needs. TK is part of the public-school system and is free to parents. TK implements a unique, specialized curriculum based on the CDE (California Department of Education) Preschool Curriculum Frameworks volumes 1, 2, and 3. TK is taught by credentialed teachers with extra training to teach young children. Transitional Kindergarten children participate in additional, specialized programs such as music, library and PE. Similar to AUSD Kindergarten programs, TK classrooms operate with an early bird/ late bird schedule.
