Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is a strong start for young learners.  Albany Children's Center houses AUSD's transitional kindergarten program on site.  Transitional Kindergarten is a "new" grade level in California, created in 2010 with the implementation of The Kindergarten Readiness Act.  Transitional Kindergarten is a developmentally appropriate bridge between preschool and kindergarten for children turning 5 years old between September 1 and December 2. It gives young learners a jumpstart, providing them with the opportunity to learn and grow in an environment that is tailored to meet their academic and social needs. TK is part of the public-school system and is free to parents.  TK implements a unique, specialized curriculum based on the CDE (California Department of Education) Preschool Curriculum Frameworks. TK is taught by credentialed teachers with extra training to teach young children. Transitional Kindergarten children participate in additional, specialized programs such as music, library and PE.  Similar to AUSD Kindergarten programs, TK classrooms will operate on an AM/PM schedule beginning in the 2019-20 school year.
