Back To School Nights, Latino/LatinX Heritage Month, Safety Task Force, & Changes to COVID Testing
Dear Albany Community,
Yesterday I attended Back to School Nights at our elementary schools and was pleased to see the crowds! Family support and involvement is critical to student success. Albany Middle School and High Schools will have their Back to School Nights soon, and I hope to see many of you at those events. According to county guidance regarding large gatherings, we will be requiring masks for all attendees. Masking will help ensure the safety of our entire school community.
Albany Middle School
- Thursday, Sept. 8: 6:30–8:10pm
Albany and MacGregor High Schools
- Wednesday, Sept. 14: PTSA meeting 6–7pm, Back to School Night 7–9pm
Note that the AHS PTSA has a meeting immediately before the Back to School Night event. The AMS PTA meeting is on Wednesday, Sept. 7 via Zoom. I encourage you to join (click on the links above) and attend these meetings. Our PTAs/PTSAs run programs and events for students, purchase additional supplies, support teachers, as well as host great speakers on topics selected by parents. Beat the Back to School Night crowd by starting at the PTSA meeting!
Latino/LatinX Heritage Month Begins September 15
Read the Board of Education Agenda Item and Resolution recognizing this important month. AUSD is renewing our commitment to educate Latino/Latinx students in an environment that honors their diverse cultures and that welcomes their participation. District schools and teachers will commemorate this occasion with appropriate instructional materials and activities.
Please Join the Safety Task Force
I am convening a Safety Task Force to discuss district-wide opportunities to increase student safety. The task force will meet on Sept. 14, Oct. 12, Nov. 9, Dec. 14, and Jan. 11 from 4:30pm–5:45pm (via Zoom). If you are interested in being a member of this task force, please fill out this form. Task Force membership will be built with attention to equal representation of all school sites and according to when the interest form was submitted. If you cannot commit to being at all meetings, you may still attend as a spectator. Nothing is more important than students’ and staff safety.
Change In COVID Testing Protocols
AUSD will be re-aligning our COVID testing protocols with new Alameda County guidance. Beginning September 12, students in band, choir, and on athletic teams will be asked to perform weekly at-home tests, and students who need test kits can get them from their school office. State and county guidance to schools has emphasized the need to transition from being medical testing sites to instead helping families that need access to test kits. The guidance also encourages practices that will keep our students and staff safe at school. I am confident that AUSD can still keep our students and staff safe by providing access to test kits and asking these groups to test weekly.

¡Ayer asistí a las Noches de Regreso a la Escuela en nuestras escuelas primarias y me complació ver la multitud! El apoyo y la participación de la familia son fundamentales para el éxito de los estudiantes. Las Escuelas Secundarias y Secundarias de Albany tendrán sus Noches de Regreso a la Escuela pronto, y espero verlos a muchos de ustedes en esos eventos. Únase al grupo de trabajo de seguridad
Estoy convocando un Grupo de trabajo de seguridad para discutir oportunidades en todo el distrito para aumentar la seguridad de los estudiantes . El grupo de trabajo se reunirá el 14 de septiembre, el 12 de octubre, el 9 de noviembre, el 14 de diciembre y el 11 de enero de 4:30 pm –5:45 pm. (a través de Zoom). Si está interesado en ser miembro de este grupo de trabajo, complete este formulario . La membresía del grupo de trabajo se construirá con atención a la representación equitativa de todos los sitios escolares y de acuerdo con cuándo se envió el formulario de interés. Si no puede comprometerse a asistir a todas las reuniones, aún puede asistir como espectador. Nada es más importante que la seguridad de los estudiantes y del personal.
Cambio en los protocolos de prueba de COVID
AUSD realineará nuestros protocolos de prueba de COVID con la nueva guía del condado de Alameda. A partir del 12 de septiembre, se les pedirá a los estudiantes de banda, coro y equipos atléticos que realicen pruebas semanales en el hogar, y los estudiantes que necesiten kits de prueba pueden obtenerlos en la oficina de la escuela. La orientación estatal y del condado para las escuelas ha enfatizado la necesidad de pasar de ser sitios de pruebas médicas a ayudar a las familias que necesitan acceso a kits de prueba. La guía también fomenta prácticas que mantendrán seguros a nuestros estudiantes y al personal en la escuela. Confío en que el AUSD aún puede mantener seguros a nuestros estudiantes y al personal brindando acceso a los kits de prueba y pidiéndoles a estos grupos que tomen las pruebas semanalmente.

COVID测试协议的变化
