Dear Albany Community,
The fall sports season is over, and it’s time to give them a shout-out. The renovated Cougar Field and AHS Fitness Center gave student-athletes a competitive edge and raised spirits immensely. At AMS, over 60 girls participated in volleyball, and the 7th grade "A" team won the East Bay championship tournament! The defending state champion AHS Cougar boys cross country program took the TCAL championship again. The Lady Cougar golf team won a second consecutive league title and advanced to the North Coast Section (NCS) championships. Another championship banner will be up in the gym courtesy of the girls tennis team, who raced through the TCAL season with an undefeated record. AHS volleyball defeated St. Patrick-St. Vincent in a wild league playoff victory, and advanced to the NCS playoffs. The robust AHS club sport ultimate frisbee team, Cougar Ultimate, won the open division of the Fog 5 beach tournament over 18 competing teams. Kudos to all of these outstanding athletes, including those teams not specifically mentioned here. I also thank the families who supported these athletes, and for the dedicated coaches who give our students incredible experiences.
Thanksgiving Break
All schools and the District Office will be closed next week to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday. Please have a safe, relaxing holiday!
Test Before Returning to School
COVID is still with us, there has been a surge of Respiratory Syncytial Virus Infection (RSV) cases, and the flu season has started. AUSD is pleased to have been able to provide COVID tests for every student and staff member. This will help ensure safety for our community after a week that often involves travel and gathering. To reduce the chance of a post-break COVID surge, please test your student using an at-home COVID test kit on Sunday, November 27, and use the second test on Tuesday or Wednesday, November 29 or 30. If the test is positive, or the student has any cold or flu symptoms, they should not return to school until their symptoms are resolved.
Right to Read Panel
As I mentioned in a previous Update, I have a deep interest in literacy. At the North Region SELPA Community Advocacy Committee (CAC) meeting next Monday, other local educational leaders and myself will share data and answer questions about how students are taught to read. There will be short presentations from Albany, Alameda, Berkeley, Emery, and Piedmont School Districts, followed by a question and answer session.

There are openings on several District committees, including the Student Achievement Committee and the Budget Advisory Committee. Please take a moment to look at our committees and see if you would be interested in taking part.
New A+ Math Newsletter!
This newsletter, full of fun puzzles and activities from AMS’s own Mr. Lew, is a great way to enjoy some family math time together over the holiday break.

Examen antes de regresar a la escuela
