Dear Albany Community,

 

Cross Country Team Wins Third In State

Last year was the first time a Cross Country track team from Albany has ever made it to the state championships. In a remarkable debut, Sophia Nordenholz won the individual girls division and the boys team won first place! This year, for the first time in Albany Unified’s history, Coach Craig Stern took his team to the state championship for the second year in a row. The boys team brought home the 3rd place trophy, and Senior Sean Morello won second place in the boys individual division. Next year will bring change—after coaching for 13 years here at Albany, Coach Craig Stern is retiring. His first team consisted of only 6 girls and 7 boys. This year almost 70 students registered for the team. Kudos to Coach Stern for inspiring so many runners, and, of course, kudos to the team and Sean for their incredible achievements!

 

COVID Transmission, Testing, and Reporting

Thanks to everyone who used the COVID test kits we distributed prior to break to test their students before returning to school. This testing uncovered a number of cases in students and staff who then stayed home and did not return to campus.  Our community’s commitment to testing prevented possible in-school spread of COVID. Consistent with past practice, the AUSD COVID Dashboard only reports cases from in-school exposure. Please continue to test whenever there are symptoms, and keep students home if they are sick. 

 

Board of Education Changes

At the December 13 Board of Education meeting, we will be saying thank you to Sara Hinkley (President), Clementina Duron (Vice President), and Brian Doss for their service on the Board of Education for the past four years. We will be welcoming three new trustees, Becky Hopwood, Sadia Khan, and Ron Rosenbaum. Although this is apparent from the election results, the new trustees’ names will not appear in the agenda, which must be published prior to the election certification. The Board of Education will also be electing new officers at the December 13 meeting, which it does annually.

El equipo de campo a través gana el tercer lugar en el estado

El año pasado fue la primera vez que un equipo de atletismo de Cross Country de Albany llegó a los campeonatos estatales. ¡En un notable debut, Sophia Nordenholz ganó la división femenina individual y el equipo masculino ganó el primer lugar! Este año, por primera vez en la historia del Distrito Escolar Unificado de Albany, el entrenador Craig Stern llevó a su equipo al campeonato estatal por segundo año consecutivo. El equipo masculino se llevó a casa el trofeo del 3er lugar, y el senior Sean Morello ganó el segundo lugar en la división individual masculina. El próximo año traerá cambios: después de entrenar durante 13 años aquí en Albany, el entrenador Craig Stern se retira. Su primer equipo estaba formado por solo 6 chicas y 7 chicos. Este año casi 70 alumnos se inscribieron en el equipo. ¡Felicitaciones al entrenador Stern por inspirar a tantos corredores y, por supuesto, felicitaciones al equipo y a Sean por sus increíbles logros!

 

Transmisión, pruebas e informes de COVID

Gracias a todos los que usaron los kits de prueba de COVID que distribuimos antes del receso para evaluar a sus estudiantes antes de regresar a la escuela. Esta prueba descubrió una serie de casos en estudiantes y personal que luego se quedaron en casa y no regresaron al campus. El compromiso de nuestra comunidad con las pruebas evitó la posible propagación de COVID en la escuela. De acuerdo con la práctica anterior, el Tablero COVID de AUSD solo informa casos de exposición en la escuela . Continúe haciéndose la prueba siempre que haya síntomas y mantenga a los estudiantes en casa si están enfermos.

 

Cambios en la Junta de Educación

En la reunión de la Junta de Educación del 13 de diciembre, agradeceremos a Sara Hinkley (presidenta), Clementina Duron (vicepresidenta) y Brian Doss por su servicio en la Junta de Educación durante los últimos cuatro años. Daremos la bienvenida a tres nuevos miembros, Becky Hopwood, Sadia Khan y Ron Rosenbaum. Aunque esto se desprende de los resultados de la elección, los nombres de los nuevos síndicos no aparecerán en la agenda, que debe publicarse antes de la certificación de la elección. La Junta de Educación también elegirá nuevos funcionarios en la reunión del 13 de diciembre, lo que hace anualmente.

去年是奥尔巴尼的越野田径队首次进入州锦标赛。 Sophia Nordenholz 的首秀表现出色，夺得女子个人组冠军，男子团体冠军！今年，在 Albany Unified 的历史上，教练 Craig Stern 第一次带领他的球队连续第二年获得州冠军。男子组获得第三名，高级肖恩·莫雷洛获得男子个人组第二名。明年将带来变化——在奥尔巴尼执教 13 年后，教练克雷格·斯特恩 (Craig Stern) 即将退休。他的第一支球队只有 6 名女孩和 7 名男孩。今年有近 70 名学生报名参加了该团队。感谢 Stern 教练激励了这么多跑者，当然也感谢团队和 Sean 取得的令人难以置信的成就！

 

COVID 传输、测试和报告

感谢所有使用我们在休息前分发的 COVID 测试套件的人，以便在返校前测试他们的学生。该测试发现了学生和教职员工中的一些病例，他们随后留在家中并没有返回校园。我们社区对测试的承诺阻止了 COVID 可能在校内传播。与过去的做法一致， AUSD COVID 仪表板仅报告来自校内接触的病例。请在出现症状时继续检测，如果学生生病，请让他们留在家中。

 

教育委员会的变化

在 12 月 13 日的教育委员会会议上，我们将感谢 Sara Hinkley（主席）、Clementina Duron（副主席）和 Brian Doss 过去四年来在教育委员会的服务。我们将迎来三位新的受托人，Becky Hopwood、Sadia Khan 和 Ron Rosenbaum。尽管从选举结果中可以明显看出这一点，但新受托人的姓名不会出现在议程中，议程必须在选举认证之前公布。教育委员会还将在每年 12 月 13 日的会议上选举新的官员。
