Dear Albany Community,
The Black History Month Celebration this Wednesday was a fantastic event that featured Albany Unified students of all ages showcasing their talents and inspiring us all. Thanks to the Black Parent Advisory Group and the Black Student Union for organizing the event!
Dr. Mae Jemison, American Hero
I wanted to wind up this month by highlighting a Black leader whom I personally revere, Dr. Mae Jemison. She was born in Alabama, the daughter of an elementary school teacher and a maintenance supervisor. She graduated from Stanford with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and a B.A. in African and African-American studies, and proceeded to Cornell Medical School, where she earned her medical degree. She later applied to NASA and became the first African-American woman in space. After leaving the space program, Dr. Jemison taught environmental studies at Dartmouth College and now directs the Jemison Institute for Advancing Technology in Developing Countries. This amazing American exemplifies to me the qualities of a true hero—she has used her tremendous gifts to lift up others and give back to the world. My favorite quote from her is, “Never be limited by other people's limited imaginations.”
Mid-Winter Break
Next week, February 20–24, is mid-winter break, and all schools and school offices will be closed. Many Albany High students will be using next week for college visits. I hope that everyone will take the time to relax, rejuvenate, and enjoy family and friends.
COVID At-Home Testing
As we have done before other breaks this year, every student has been sent home with a COVID At-Home test kit containing two tests. Please help us limit the spread of COVID on campus by testing your student on Sunday, February 26 before returning to school on Monday, February 27, and again on Wednesday, March 1. Students with a positive COVID test, or having any cold or flu symptoms, should not return to school until their symptoms are resolved.

La celebración del Mes de la Historia Negra este miércoles fue un evento fantástico que contó con estudiantes del Distrito Escolar Unificado de Albany de todas las edades mostrando sus talentos e inspirándonos a todos. ¡Gracias al Grupo Asesor de Padres Negros y al Sindicato de Estudiantes Negros por organizar el evento!
Dra. Mae Jemison, heroína estadounidense
Quería terminar este mes destacando a una líder negra a quien personalmente venero, la Dra. Mae Jemison . Nació en Alabama, hija de un maestro de escuela primaria y un supervisor de mantenimiento. Se graduó de Stanford con una licenciatura en ingeniería química y una licenciatura en estudios africanos y afroamericanos, y se dirigió a la Escuela de Medicina de Cornell, donde obtuvo su título de médico. Vacaciones de mediados de invierno
La próxima semana, del 20 al 24 de febrero, son las vacaciones de mediados de invierno y todas las escuelas y oficinas escolares estarán cerradas. Pruebas de COVID en el hogar
Como lo hemos hecho antes de otros recesos este año, cada estudiante ha sido enviado a casa con un kit de prueba COVID en el hogar que contiene dos pruebas. Ayúdenos a limitar la propagación de COVID en el campus evaluando a su estudiante el domingo 26 de febrero antes de regresar a la escuela el lunes 27 de febrero y nuevamente el miércoles 1 de marzo. Estudiantes con una prueba de COVID positiva o que tengan algún resfriado o gripe síntomas, no deben regresar a la escuela hasta que se resuelvan sus síntomas.

COVID在家测试
