Dear Albany Community,
This year, as it has for years past, SchoolCARE allocated over a quarter of a million dollars to fund staff positions at Albany schools. SchoolCARE’s function is unique among our wonderful fundraising groups—the notable difference is that SchoolCARE funds staff positions. Education is people-intense, and SchoolCARE gets more people into our schools to help students. This year alone, SchoolCARE raised more than $301,000 to support the following AUSD positions:

Why am I telling you this? It’s because SchoolCARE needs help. If they don’t find a few volunteers willing to carry on the organization, they will fold this summer. That would negatively affect every Albany student and we simply can’t allow that to happen, especially now when the state budget has forced us into possible layoffs. If you think that the positions in the list above are important to keep, then it’s time to take action.
SchoolCARE has been going for more than two decades, and has donated more than $3 million dollars in the past 10 years. It is possible to be a part of SchoolCARE while you work, as that is what their board members and volunteers typically do. If you want to make the biggest possible impact you can with your volunteer time, join SchoolCARE now. Email the current board. We all have busy lives, but many hands will make light work. Let’s all do a little so that SchoolCARE, AUSD’s primary fundraising organization, stays alive and healthy.
AHS Student Wins Photography Award
Revin Yamashiro, a senior at Albany High School in the Advanced Photography class, has won a photography award from The Getty Museum. Out of over 20,000 photographs for The Getty's UnShuttered Call for Entries, Revin's photograph was one of the top 25 winners! His photograph will be featured in an online gallery via The Getty Museum, as well as on their social media. His photo will also be presented in public art spaces in California. Congratulations to Revin for this amazing achievement!
